The Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance has launched its 2026 Amateur Photo Contest, a Mattie Kelly Environmental Initiative, in celebration of Earth Day.

  • The annual contest invites amateur photographers of all skill levels to submit original images showcasing the natural beauty and ecological heritage of Choctawhatchee Bay and surrounding areas.

Photographers are encouraged to capture what they love about nature in and around the bay. Submissions may highlight the area’s scenic landscapes, the connection between people and the environment, or moments that reflect sustainability and science in action.

The contest aims to celebrate the natural heritage of Northwest Florida through the lens of its community.

Winning photographs and honorable mentions will be featured in the 2026 Mattie Kelly Environmental Institute calendar. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three submissions: $250 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place.

Photos must be high quality, original and taken within the Northwest Florida region. The submission deadline is July 4.
