Crestview Animal Services Supervisor Katie Healey has received the Trailblazer in Animal Welfare Award from Humane World for Animals, a national recognition honoring her leadership in the field.
- The award is presented to individuals working or volunteering in animal welfare who demonstrate leadership, innovation and commitment to advancing diversity in the field.
“I’m committed to reshaping animal welfare by expanding access to care and challenging systems that exclude rural and underrepresented communities,” Healey said.
As part of the recognition, Healey attended the Animal Care Expo in Pittsburgh last month with all expenses covered. The complete list of 2026 Trailblazer honorees is available at humanepro.org/expo/trailblazers.

The honor highlights Crestview’s efforts to make animal care more accessible and equitable across the community, according to the city.
At its May 11 meeting, the Crestview City Council approved an interlocal agreement to provide temporary emergency animal control services to the City of Laurel Hill on an as-needed basis.
Crestview Animal Services found homes for 355 animals through its local shelter last year. In March, the department held its first 5K Lucky Dog Dash, drawing 125 participants and raising $3,400 to support animal care in the area.
