The Air Force will conduct munitions testing in the Gulf on Friday, Oct. 16, from 8 a.m. to noon, according to the 96th Test Wing at Eglin Air Force Base.

  • All vessels are required to remain clear of the active hazard zone during the tests. The area is about 18 nautical miles south of the Destin East Pass and extends about 13 nautical miles, according to the 96th Test Wing Office of Public Affairs.

Advisories and local notice to mariners will be broadcast on Channel 16 and on HF upper sideband 2182 kHz by the Eglin Joint Test and Training Operations Control Center.

The 96th Test Wing also reminded residents, visitors and recreators in and around the Eglin Test and Training Complex and surrounding waters to never touch, move, disturb or attempt to recover unidentified military or test-related items.

Anyone who finds such an item should mark the location from a safe distance using GPS coordinates or nearby landmarks, according to the 96th Test Wing. The item should then be reported to local law enforcement, the 96th Security Forces Squadron Base Defense Operations Center at 850-882-2000, or the U.S. Coast Guard if found on the water.
