EOD team plans routine munitions disposal at Eglin Air Force Base

Eglin Air Force Base's explosive disposal team announced a scheduled munitions disposal operation Monday, with possible noise impacts for nearby communities.
Staff Sgt. Geoffrey Gilmer, 96th Civil Engineer Squadron, clears debris away from exposed wires near a potential improvised explosive device May 21 at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. The IED was part of an explosive ordnance disposal demonstration for Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Kaleth O. Wright. (U.S. Air Force photo/Samuel King Jr.)

Residents near Eglin Air Force Base may hear detonation sounds Monday as explosive specialists conduct a planned munitions disposal operation.

  • The 96th Civil Engineer Squadron’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Flight will carry out the routine disposal on Range C-62 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Nov. 18.

The operation could produce noise noticeable to residents in Mossy Head and the north side of Niceville areas.

Military officials said the EOD flight conducts these disposals on the Eglin reservation as a safety measure.
