HOW I WORK: An inside look at how HCA’s Emma Wegher balances healthcare leadership, growth, and community connection

Emma Wegher, Chief Operating Officer at HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital, starts her days early with a workout before leading hospital operations, balancing healthcare leadership, community involvement, and time with family in Okaloosa County.

Emma Wegher relocated to Okaloosa County from Michigan after years of visiting family in the area and quickly found herself drawn to both the community and the opportunity to grow her healthcare career locally.

  • Today, she serves as Chief Operating Officer at HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital, helping oversee operations at one of the area’s major healthcare facilities.

Her days begin early with a workout before heading to the hospital, where adaptability and teamwork are central to her work. Outside of the hospital, Emma values time with family, supporting local businesses, and staying connected to the community through organizations like the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce.

Are you a life-long local, if not, where are you from originally and how did you end up in the area?

I’m originally from a small town in Michigan, and I ended up in this area because of both my job at HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital and my family. My family has lived here for about 8 years, and after visiting frequently, I really fell in love with the area and everything it has to offer. It just felt like the right place to be, both personally and professionally.
