Local community invited to International Overdose Awareness Day event in Niceville

The free community gathering begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner, followed by a program from 6-8 p.m. featuring keynote speaker State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden.

The community is invited to come together this evening for an important International Overdose Awareness Day event at Crosspoint Church, located at 214 Partin Drive S. in Niceville.

  • The free community gathering begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner, followed by a program from 6-8 p.m. featuring keynote speaker State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden.

“Substance use impacts everyone in our community—and together we can make a difference,” organizers said in promoting tonight’s event.

The evening will include testimonials from local residents, including individuals helped by the Post Overdose Support Team (POST). Attendees will hear POST program data and success stories, demonstrating the impact of local intervention efforts.

An expert panel featuring representatives from law enforcement, substance use treatment providers, and emergency medical services will conduct an audience Q&A session. Community members will also have the opportunity to visit with local nonprofits and treatment providers to learn about available resources and support services.

International Overdose Awareness Day is observed globally to remember those who have died from drug overdoses, acknowledge the grief of families and friends, and raise awareness about overdose prevention while reducing stigma around substance use disorders.

  • The event will also feature raffle prizes and free Narcan distribution—a life-saving medication that can reverse opioid overdoses. The evening is being organized through a partnership between OCHIP (Okaloosa County Health Improvement Partnership) and POST Okaloosa County.

Community members are encouraged to RSVP for this free event, which promises to be an important opportunity to learn about overdose prevention resources and how to support those affected by substance use in our local area.
