Mitch Reed announced his candidacy for the Okaloosa County School Board in District 3 last Tuesday, emphasizing his commitment to conservative values and public service.

  • Reed, a U.S. Army veteran with more than two decades of leadership experience in government, business development, nonprofits and public policy, holds a top-secret security clearance and has worked as a substitute teacher and test mentor in Okaloosa County, according to his campaign press release.

“I want to leave a legacy of service—for my children and our community—rooted in faith, integrity, and a commitment to a strong, innovative workforce,” Reed said in the announcement. “I stand with President Trump in the mission to make our schools the best and safest in America. I’ll fight every day for the students, teachers, and families of Okaloosa County.”

The District 3 seat is currently held by School Board Member Linda Evanchyk, who has not yet announced whether she will seek re-election.

Reed’s campaign platform focuses on:

  • Enhancing student safety, including combating cyberbullying.
  • Promoting student success and career readiness through vocational training.
  • Improving benefits for teachers.
  • Protecting taxpayers by ensuring financial accountability.
  • Strengthening career and technical education opportunities.

The candidate holds a Bachelor of Science in Counseling from Johnson University and a Master’s in Organizational Leadership from the University of Texas at El Paso. His professional background includes work as a business consultant and owner, operations analyst, business partner, shareholder, board advisor and nonprofit director.

Reed has also participated in mentorship through NASA’s University Student Launch Initiative and helped develop Career & Technical Education programs in neighboring districts.
