The City of Fort Walton Beach is contracting with DRC Emergency Services to clean up debris from Hurricane Isaias, with crews expected to begin work midweek, around Oct. 14, according to the city.

Residents do not need to schedule a storm debris pickup.

“Simply place it at the curb, and crews will remove it as they work through their routes,” the city said in its announcement.

DRC will make several passes through neighborhoods over the next two to three weeks to ensure all of the debris is collected, according to the city.

Debris guidelines

The city said it will accept clean vegetative debris, such as trees and limbs, and storm-related construction debris, such as fences and docks. It asked residents to follow these guidelines:

  • Use separate piles for vegetative debris and construction debris.
  • Pile storm debris at the curbside, well away from hydrants, mailboxes and above-ground utility boxes.
  • Pile debris loose. Do not put debris in bags.
  • Do not include hazardous waste or non-organic material.

Regular yard waste collection suspended

The city’s regular yard waste collection service will be suspended during the cleanup.

Crews will not ask for payment

Because the city is contracting with DRC for the cleanup, no DRC employee or subcontractor will ask residents for payment, according to the city.

Residents with questions can contact the Fort Walton Beach Sanitation Division at 850-833-9655.
