All Okaloosa County schools and district facilities will remain closed Monday, Oct. 12, and Tuesday, Oct. 13, due to ongoing recovery efforts following Hurricane Isaias, the Okaloosa County School District announced Sunday afternoon.
The district anticipates reopening schools and resuming normal operations on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
“However, we will continue to evaluate conditions and will communicate any changes if necessary,” the district wrote in its 4 p.m. update.
The anticipated return is one day later than the district first planned. Oct. 12 was a scheduled Teacher Workday and classes were expected to resume Tuesday, Oct. 13.
All extracurricular activities, athletic events and school-related activities have also been canceled, according to the district.
District teams continue to assess storm impacts, including flooding, power outages, downed trees and damage to school campuses, the district said.
“This additional time will allow crews to safely prepare our schools for students and staff while supporting continued recovery efforts throughout our community,” the district wrote.
