The City of Fort Walton Beach is asking volunteers to help clear storm debris from Ferry Park from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, the first of the city’s park cleanup days after Hurricane Isaias.

“Hurricane Isaias left plenty of storm debris across all of our city parks and we’re asking our community to help us clean it up,” the city wrote.

Volunteers will clear small branches and other tree debris from the park grounds, according to the city. The cleanup will begin with a brief meeting at 8 a.m. before volunteers split into four groups to work in different areas of the park, the city said.

Okaloosa Sheriff thanks first responders from across Florida for Hurricane Isaias help

Okaloosa County Sheriff Eric Aden thanked first responders from across Florida who came to help the county after Hurricane Isaias, in a video posted to social media Thursday.

“I want to take a moment to thank our first responders around the state that came and showed up in full force to help us in our hours and days of need,” Aden said.

Aden said the agencies that sent equipment and personnel helped the Sheriff’s Office continue to provide public safety during the storm and its aftermath, while employees also dealt with damage to their own property.

“We will certainly be there like we have in the past to deploy if you should need us in the future,” he said.
