Okaloosa County seeking applicants for Affordable Housing Advisory Committee

Okaloosa County is accepting applications through May 14 for one citizen seat on the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, which advises on local housing issues.

Okaloosa County is seeking applicants to fill one citizen seat on the Okaloosa County/Fort Walton Beach Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, with applications due by 5 p.m. Thursday, May 14.

  • The Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners, with mutual approval from the Fort Walton Beach City Council, will make the appointment. The appointee will serve a three-year term beginning immediately upon appointment.

The committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioners and the Fort Walton Beach City Council on issues related to affordable housing in Okaloosa County. Its work includes developing recommendations to address impediments, create incentives and support the expansion of affordable housing opportunities within the local area.

The committee meets no less than quarterly.

Minimum requirements for the appointment are outlined in section 420.9076, Florida Statutes, and by Board of County Commissioners policy. The county is soliciting applications from citizens who meet one of the following categories:

  • A citizen knowledgeable in the local planning process.
  • A citizen who represents essential services personnel, as defined in the local housing assistance plan.
  • A citizen who is a representative of areas of labor actively engaged in home building in connection with affordable housing.
  • A citizen actively engaged in the residential home building industry in connection with affordable housing.
