A four-run lead wasn’t enough for South Walton.

  • West Florida Tech rallied with seven unanswered runs across the sixth and seventh innings on April 30 to deliver a stunning 8-5 upset of the Lady Seahawks in the district semifinal.

South Walton struck first in the second inning when Kallie Keyes drove in a run with an RBI single. West Florida Tech answered in its next at-bat, taking advantage of a series of errors that allowed Lilly Speight to score and tie the game.

The Lady Seahawks appeared to seize control in the fourth. Zoey Kreinus launched a home run to put South Walton back in front, and Kayden Eckman followed with an RBI double that scored MacKenzie Scozzafave. Eckman later came around to score on an error, pushing the lead to 4-1.

But everything that could go wrong for South Walton did over the final two frames. West Florida Tech reeled off seven unanswered runs to flip the game.

McKenzie Reiter added one more run for the Lady Seahawks on a sacrifice fly that scored Tatum Kreinus, but the comeback bid fell short.

South Walton now enters wait-and-see mode ahead of Friday’s bracket release. With Paxon School for Advanced Studies capturing a district title, the No. 2 seed appears unlikely.

As a probable No. 3 seed, the Lady Seahawks will be hoping to avoid a district champion in the opening round.
