The Destin Chamber honored Bernard Johnson with its Lifetime Membership Award during the Sept. 11 Business Before Hours event.
- The 2026 Chairman of the Board Monica Wallis of Destin Water Users presented the award on behalf of the full board, recognizing Johnson’s pending retirement and his service to the community and the organization.
Johnson serves as Regional Manager of External Affairs for Florida Power & Light, working with communities across Northwest Florida. He has more than 38 years of experience with FPL and its predecessor, Gulf Power, holding roles in line operations, engineering, customer service and marketing. He also serves on the Destin Chamber Board of Directors.
Beyond his career, Johnson is involved in numerous boards and initiatives focused on economic development, education, workforce development and quality of life.
“Anyone who knows Bernard knows what he has meant to FPL, this community, and the numerous organizations his service has touched and affected,” said Destin Chamber President and CEO Shane A. Moody. “His positive attitude is infectious.”
Moody said the Lifetime Membership Award is not something the board takes lightly.
“It is given to people who have provided elite service to this community. Bernard far exceeds any of those descriptions,” Moody said. “I wish him well and hope to continue to see him often.”
Johnson joins a small group of Destin Chamber lifetime members that includes Helen Donaldson, Fred Fenn, Bill Head, Col. Kim M. Wintner and Lockwood Wernet.
