The Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport announced the addition of a Mamava Breastfeeding center inside the airport.

The Mamava Breastfeeding center is a private area mothers can use to feed children or pump breastmilk. According to a press release from Okaloosa County, this is the 9th breastfeeding unit deployed in a Florida Airport, the 50th in the Country and the first in a Northwest Florida airport.

“I am happy that Okaloosa County continues in support of nursing moms. We have two lactation rooms for our employees and now we offer the Mamava to our traveling public at Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport.”

Commissioner Carolyn Ketchel

The new breastfeeding station is located next to the escalators on the second floor of the concourse – past security – and uses a free smartphone app in order to access the site.

Created by Mamava, the station is a “self-contained, mobile pod with comfortable benches, a fold-down table, an electrical outlet for plugging in a breast pump, and a door that can be locked for privacy.

The 4-foot by 8-foot pod is meant for individual use, but can fit more than one person, as well as mothers with babies and other children in tow.

“To get a clearer picture, what is the historical record of impact on the nesting sites? Is there evidence of birds being impacted by previous fireworks shows?”
