A Walton County cafeteria worker was celebrated Friday as one of five 2026 Florida School Lunch Heroes during a surprise event at Dune Lakes Elementary.
- Saronda Lewis was recognized by No Kid Hungry Florida, the Dairy Council of Florida and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for her commitment to creating a welcoming cafeteria culture where every student is seen, supported and nourished.
Teachers, students and Lewis’ peers gathered for the surprise celebration, honoring the energy and creativity she brings to themed weeks and special events that make school meals fun and memorable for students.
“Saronda Lewis understands that sometimes the most powerful part of a meal is not just the food, it is the kindness that comes with it,” said Sky Beard, director of No Kid Hungry Florida. “School Lunch Heroes like Seronda ensure that our kids are fed, seen, and ready to learn every day.”

Brianna Henton, director of youth engagement and outreach at Florida Dairy Farmers, called school nutrition professionals “true heroes whose dedication to nourishing Florida’s children makes a lasting impact every day.”
- “We are proud to partner with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and No Kid Hungry Florida once again to celebrate these everyday champions during School Lunch Hero Week,” Henton said.
The annual award draws hundreds of nominations statewide, with just five recipients selected. Lewis received $2,000 from No Kid Hungry Florida, a prize pack from the Dairy Council of Florida and additional items from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
