A four-vehicle accident occurred on Interstate 10 in Okaloosa County on Monday afternoon. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place around 1pm at the 54 mile marker.

A truck tractor driven by a 45-year-old Monticello man was hauling heavy material eastbound on I-10. The truck jackknifed in the transition area of a construction zone, causing the driver to lose control, according to the report.

  • The truck veered off the left side of the road, collided with the center guardrail, then traveled back across and hit the right guardrail. This caused the load straps to fail and the heavy material to spill onto the roadway in both eastbound and westbound lanes.

Three other eastbound vehicles then collided with the material in the roadway. All four vehicles were disabled, resulting in the complete closure of Interstate 10.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. No further details were provided about injuries or damage.
