Friday night at Jack Foster Stadium was a hard-fought season opener for Crestview, as Lincoln rallied from a 10-0 deficit to edge the Bulldogs 13-10 on a late field goal.

  • The night started well for the Bulldogs. A Lincoln fumble was recovered by Crestview deep in Trojan territory, and a drive capped off by a Manwell Robinson 30-yard touchdown run gave the Bulldogs an early lead.

On the ensuing drive, Lincoln quarterback Thomas Hutchinson was intercepted by JD Dortch, and the Crestview defense continued to set the tone early. The Bulldogs managed a drive all the way to Lincoln’s 10-yard line and tacked on an Elijah Rice field goal to push the lead to 10-0.

That score held until right before halftime, when Lincoln’s Barron Burris kicked a field goal to get the Trojans on the board and make it a one-score game heading into the break.

The second half was a defensive battle, with neither offense able to generate much momentum.

Both teams had chances to break through — Crestview drove into Lincoln territory in the third quarter and the Trojans forced a Trevin Ford fumble — but neither side could convert, as both kickers missed field goal attempts to keep the score at 10-3.

Lincoln finally broke through with just over two minutes remaining. The Trojans forced a Crestview punt, and Jamari Jones took the return deep into Bulldogs territory. Crestview managed to sack Hutchinson, but the Lincoln quarterback responded on the very next play, finding Trevor Jacobs wide open for the game-tying touchdown.

The Bulldogs moved the ball on the ensuing possession but couldn’t get into scoring range, and Lincoln went to work on what would be the game-winning drive.

A personal foul on Crestview combined with Reginald Thompson carrying it all the way to the 1-yard line set up Burris for the go-ahead field goal, which he converted to give the Trojans the 13-10 victory.
