The Niceville High School Theatre Department will present the closing weekend of its production of “Footloose” this weekend, with three remaining performances of the Broadway musical that opened last weekend to packed houses.

  • “Footloose,” based on the 1984 film of the same name, is presented through permission by Concord Theatricals of New York, NY.

NHS Theatre Director Ritchie Jackson, a 1982 graduate of the school, said the department aims for college-level production values, with large dance numbers, detailed sets, quick scene changes and strong vocal performances.

“Our audiences have come to expect excellence from our shows, and we always work hard to give them that,” Jackson said. “Our past productions of SIX, Hello, Dolly!, Newsies, and Chicago have all left audiences amazed and dazzled, and have broken county high school box office records. At NHS, high school theatre is not what you remember it being. The number one comment I hear as audiences leave the theater is always, ‘I cannot believe that was a high school production,’ and that makes us exceptionally proud.”

Jackson said the department has grown significantly in recent years, with many audience members returning to see productions more than once.

“Our department has exploded over the last few years, and our shows give our audiences quality entertainment that keeps them coming back for more, with many people seeing our shows more than once because our commitment to stellar work keeps them coming back to witness it all again,” he said.

Jackson credited two members of the production team for the show’s quality. Choreographer Nicci Fahle has worked with the department for six years, and Madison Gomez joined the production as vocal director.

“Nicci Fahle has been the department’s choreographer of choice for the past six years, and her work makes what our dancers do look effortless,” Jackson said. “Madison Gomez has joined us as Vocal Director for this production, and she has our vocals sounding so professional and beautiful.”

Final shows are Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. General admission tickets are $15, and VIP tickets are $20. VIP ticket holders are admitted 30 minutes before curtain for early seat selection and receive a free small bottle of water and a small bag of popcorn. General admission ticket holders enter the theater 20 minutes before curtain.

Tickets are available only on GoFan.
