The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is joining agencies across Florida and the Southeast to crack down on speeding and aggressive driving through increased enforcement this week.

  • Beginning July 14, deputies will increase enforcement as part of Operation Southern Slow Down, a traffic safety mobilization that runs through July 19.

While traffic enforcement continues year-round, this focused effort is designed to get attention and remind drivers of the serious risks tied to aggressive driving and speeding. The initiative is especially important during the summer months, when crashes tend to increase across the state.

According to the sheriff’s office, aggressive driving and speeding put everyone at risk and contribute to a significant number of serious crashes and fatalities.

“Our priority is your safety. Drive safe. Slow down. It saves lives!” the agency stated in announcing the operation.

  1. They aren’t trying to hard in my neighborhood. They’d fund their donut campaign for fifteen years ticketing the drivers who run stop signs and race the residential streets in my community. Calling the sheriff’s office does nothing. I called one morning after two cars had a drag race in front of my house, and a deputy showed up the next day saying, “l don’t see anyone racing.” No kidding, deputy.
