Okaloosa County Schools to reopen Wednesday after Hurricane Isaias, storm-related absences to be excused

Okaloosa County schools will reopen Wednesday after Hurricane Isaias closures. Absences and tardies for students who evacuated or are commuting from impacted areas will be excused.

Okaloosa County schools will resume classes Wednesday, Oct. 14, the Okaloosa County School District announced Monday afternoon.

Absences and tardies for students who evacuated or are commuting from areas impacted by Hurricane Isaias will be excused, according to the district. Families should follow their school’s established procedures for reporting excused absences and tardies.

Schools will communicate any updates on extracurricular activities and after-school programs directly with families and staff as needed, the district said.

Schools closed Thursday, Oct. 8, and Friday, Oct. 9, ahead of the storm. The district later extended the closure through Monday, Oct. 12, and Tuesday, Oct. 13, to allow crews to assess storm impacts and prepare campuses.

“Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as our community continues to recover,” the district wrote in its 4 p.m. update. “We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Wednesday.”
