The Okaloosa County Commission on the Status of Women is accepting applications for a $500 grant to support organizations that help or benefit women in the county.

Past grant recipients include Crestview Area Shelter, Beyond Expectations and Opportunity Place, demonstrating the commission’s support for diverse women-focused programs throughout the county.

The commission, established by the Board of County Commissioners in 1995, works to eliminate barriers to achievement for women through research, education and communication. The organization also recognizes and honors women who have made significant contributions toward improving the status of women and other citizens of Okaloosa County.

The commission’s 15 members meet monthly at the Greater Fort Walton Chamber of Commerce. These meetings are open to the public unless otherwise indicated.

Additional information about the commission’s history, commissioners and women honored for their contributions to the county is available here.
