Okaloosa County will hold an unveiling ceremony for its Charters of Freedom monument next to the Crestview courthouse on Tuesday, Nov. 3, immediately following the regular Board of County Commissioners meeting.
- The ceremony is estimated to begin between 10:30 and 11 a.m., according to a county news release.
The display contains a donated set of stainless steel replicas of the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights and Civil Rights Amendments. The set was donated by Foundation Forward Inc., a North Carolina-based nonprofit that has gifted similar sets to communities in 17 states.
“This monument brings our attention to the lasting impacts these documents have had on our country,” said Okaloosa County Board Chairman Trey Goodwin. “Okaloosa County has a tradition of living and exercising the American values inscribed in this generously donated display. It is only fitting that we recognize this tradition with a lasting tribute like this.”
The Crestview display is one of two Charters of Freedom monuments in Okaloosa County, according to the release. The other is located at Women Veterans Park and will be unveiled at the Nov. 11 Veterans Day event.
