Parts of Brooks Street and Bay Drive in Fort Walton Beach will be closed to through-traffic Halloween evening because of the high volume of pedestrians on Halloween night, according to the city.
- The Fort Walton Beach Police Department, in conjunction with the city’s Public Works Department, determined that the closures will be in place from about 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, according to a city news release issued Monday.
Brooks Street will be closed from the intersection of Waynel Circle east to Bay Drive. Bay Drive will be closed from that intersection north to Hollywood Boulevard.
Pedestrian and golf cart traffic will be permitted within the closure area. Motor vehicle traffic should use the detour routes indicated on a map provided by the city, which will provide access to areas adjacent to the closure.
Residents of the closed area with proper identification will have very limited access for one-way traffic from the intersection of Brooks Street and Waynel Circle, according to the release.
The city also shared the following tips for safe trick-or-treating:
- Be visible, wear light colors or carry a flashlight.
- Watch for traffic.
- Stick together.
- Check your treats.
- Visit homes with porch lights on.
