Police: Electric skateboard rider critically injured in Niceville traffic collision

A man riding an electric skateboard was critically injured Monday evening after colliding with an SUV on John Sims Parkway near Country Club Drive.

A male riding an electric skateboard reportedly suffered critical injuries Monday evening after a collision with a Toyota Sequoia on State Road 20 in Niceville.

  • The crash happened around 5:45 p.m. on State Road 20 (John Sims Parkway) near Country Club Drive, according to Niceville police.

Police say a silver Toyota Sequoia was heading westbound when it moved into the right-turn lane. At the same time, the male on the electric skateboard was reportedly traveling eastbound in that same westbound turn lane.

According to the investigation, both the SUV driver and skateboard rider tried to avoid hitting each other, “but their simultaneous movements resulted in a collision.”

  • The injured male was rushed to HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, police said. Authorities have contacted his family.

The crash is still under investigation. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has video footage to contact Officer Eakins at 850-729-4030 or seakins@nicevillefl.gov.
