Power restoration is nearly complete for Florida Power & Light and CHELCO customers in Okaloosa and Walton counties after Hurricane Isaias, according to the two utilities.

As of early Wednesday morning, FPL’s outage tracker showed 56 customers without power in Okaloosa County and nine in Walton County.

CHELCO’s outage tracker showed 624 meters without power in Walton County, two in Okaloosa County and 107 in Holmes County.

CHELCO at 99%

CHELCO reached 99% restoration Tuesday night, with 740 members still affected by outages as of 10:30 p.m., the cooperative said.

“After an extraordinary restoration effort, we are nearing the finish line, but there is still work to be done in the hardest hit areas of our service territory,” CHELCO said in its update.

Crews will continue working until power is restored to every affected member, according to the cooperative.

FPL above 95%

FPL has restored power to more than 95% of customers affected by the storm, including those in the hardest-hit areas of Escambia (5,770 still out) and Santa Rosa (3,710 still out) counties, the company said in a release Tuesday night. More than 422,000 outages have been restored.

FPL has also restored power to schools and critical facilities across the affected area that can safely receive power, according to the company.

Some customers in the hardest-hit areas may still be without power because of extensive damage, difficult access or damage to their homes or businesses that prevents them from safely receiving power, the company said. Crews will continue working in those areas until every customer is restored.

More outages possible

FPL President and CEO Scott Bores said customers could see new outages as trees weakened by the storm come down.

“In the days, weeks and months ahead, weakened trees and branches may fall and affect power lines,” Bores said. “FPL crews will continue identifying and making needed repairs to strengthen the system to pre-storm state, while addressing storm-related issues as they emerge.”

Help for FPL customers

FPL plans to keep customer outage relief stations open in the hardest-hit communities. Locations are listed at fplmaps.com/reliefsites.

Homes and businesses with damage that prevents them from safely accepting power need repairs by a licensed electrician, according to FPL. Eligible customers may qualify for help with those costs through FPL’s Care to Share program at FPL.com/assistance.

FPL customers can report outages at FPL.com or by calling 1-800-4-OUTAGE (1-800-468-8243).
