Two family members die in apparent drowning in Destin

Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office is investigating the apparent drowning of visiting relatives found in Gulf waters Tuesday evening.

Two family members visiting Destin drowned in Gulf waters Tuesday, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

  • Deputies responded to the beach near 1040 US 98 Destin after a woman was found unresponsive in the water. CPR was performed but was unsuccessful, and the woman died.

Deputies learned a man believed to be her husband was missing from the same location. OCSO Marine Units located and recovered the man from the water and performed CPR before transporting him to the Coast Guard Station. He did not survive.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the apparent drowning incident involving the two family members who were visiting the Destin area.
