Choctaw’s flag football season came to an end in the Class 2A state semifinals, as 10-time defending state champion Robinson pulled away early in a 42-12 victory over the Lady Indians.
Robinson quarterback Annie Keith set the tone from the opening quarter, connecting with Sarah Williams twice and Natalie Ashburn once to stake the Lady Knights to a 21-0 lead. Keith’s first two touchdown passes went to Williams and Ashburn in quick succession, and after Robinson’s defense forced an interception from Choctaw quarterback Diaris Morales, Keith found Williams again to extend the lead.
Choctaw’s offense settled in later in the first quarter when Morales led a drive and connected with Silvy Ewert for a touchdown, though the Lady Indians came up short on the extra-point attempt to make it 21-6.
- Robinson answered with a lengthy drive of its own. Choctaw’s defense forced a fourth down in the red zone, but Keith found Williams for her third touchdown of the game to push the lead to 28-6 at halftime.
The Lady Indians opened the second half with a scoring drive, as Morales connected with Tishelle Bowles for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 28-12. But Robinson’s defense shut the door from there, allowing no more points while Keith added two more touchdown passes in the second half to seal the 42-12 win.
Robinson advances to the Class 2A state championship game Saturday at noon ET/11 a.m. CT, where the Lady Knights will face Northwestern. Northwestern advanced with a 40-32 victory over Deltona in the other state semifinal.
For Head Coach Jim Bay and the Lady Indians, reaching the Final Four capped another deep postseason run for a program that has consistently been among the area’s best.
While Choctaw will return many key contributors next season, the team will say goodbye to several impactful seniors, including Morales, KK Hardy and Kady Folsom, all of whom played their final games in a Choctaw flag football uniform.
