The City of Fort Walton Beach is planning its biggest cleanup event yet, partnering with Ocean Hour Okaloosa and Keep Okaloosa Beautiful for a one-hour effort along the Santa Rosa Sound shoreline and U.S. Highway 98 on Saturday, June 6.
- The cleanup, part of the city’s ongoing Cleanest City on the Emerald Coast campaign, will run from 8 to 9 a.m. Volunteers will clean up the shoreline of Santa Rosa Sound and the sidewalk along U.S. 98 from Liza Jackson Park east to the Fort Walton Beach Landing.
Three starting locations will be available: Liza Jackson Park, Sound Park and the Fort Walton Beach Landing. Each location offers roadside or shoreline cleanup options.
Volunteers at Liza Jackson Park will move east, those at the Fort Walton Beach Landing will move west and those at Sound Park will head out in both directions. The groups will meet in the middle after about a half-mile walk.
Volunteers with a kayak or paddleboard can help clean up marine debris from the shoreline. Those who prefer dry land can clean up at one of the parks or along U.S. 98. Businesses or homes located on Santa Rosa Sound can also host their own cleanup and turn in collected trash.
Those interested in volunteering or with questions can contact Public Information Officer Devon Ravine at 850-586-7855 or dravine@fwb.org. More information about the Cleanest City on the Emerald Coast campaign and event registration is available at fwb.org/cleanestcity.
