Drainage improvements are underway on Highway 98 in Okaloosa County. These improvements include constructing two retention ponds on the south side of the U.S. 98/Scenic Highway 98 intersection.

In the picture above, crews are installing new drainage pipe and structures and pedestrian railing on the south side of the pond, adjacent to the Destin Beach Club parking lot.

Pond construction is part of a $33.5 million construction project that is widening 98 from four to six travel lanes between Airport Road and the Okaloosa/Walton County line.

The project is scheduled for completion in early 2021.
