Fort Walton Beach Chamber to honor Paul Singleton for attending 2,000th event in 50-year streak

The Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce will celebrate Paul Singleton, 93, for attending his 2,000th Chamber event during a June 24 gathering.

The Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce will honor longtime Chamber Ambassador Paul Singleton on June 24 as he reaches 2,000 Chamber events attended, a streak that began in 1976.

  • The Paul Singleton Meet & Greet is set for 3 to 3:45 p.m. at Home2 Suites by Hilton, Freedom Tech Center, 1930 Lewis Turner Blvd. The event will also mark Singleton’s 93rd birthday, which falls on June 21. A short program featuring guest speakers begins at 3:15 p.m. No RSVP is required.

“50 years of attending Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce events is unparalleled, like Cal Ripken’s consecutive games played record in Major League Baseball,” said Ted Corcoran, president and CEO of the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce. “Paul’s legacy will never be matched. I’m also proud that we’ve had that many new businesses join our Chamber, requiring ribbon cuttings, so he could attend them. We named our ribbon-cutting scissors after Paul about 10 years ago, and he keeps showing up to every single one.”

Singleton has been a familiar face at Chamber events for decades, building relationships and supporting local businesses across the range of Chamber activity, including ribbon cuttings, Ambassador meetings and business expos. He has tracked his attendance through a personal running diary, allowing the Chamber to verify the milestone.

The celebration will continue immediately after the Meet & Greet with the grand opening and ribbon cutting of Grow with Us Learning Academy at 4 p.m. at the same location, adding one more event to Singleton’s count.

More information about the Chamber, upcoming events and membership is available at fwbchamber.org.

“Seems like Crestview took the hit in regard to cuts. Why are our projects less important OR are our representatives asleep while others get their funds?????”

“Think about how much could’ve been done with the $84m the state spent on a few acres of sand on Holiday Isle. What a boondoggle!”

“Outrageous! Now tell us the real story, major owners names, listing and selling agents, and who is the purchaser...why was this left out? Which ones are relatives of the mayor...”
Respond
“I concur. As a private citizen and potential buyer, if I chose to purchase property with the need for demolition, I’d be required to work out price with the owner,...”
Respond
“Agreed. Why are we spending public money so that someone will buy the property and exclude the public from it.”
