Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on new DeFuniak Springs neighborhood

Habitat for Humanity of Walton County held a groundbreaking ceremony May 8 on Vann Avenue in DeFuniak Springs for a new affordable housing neighborhood featuring nine homes.

Habitat for Humanity of Walton County broke ground May 8 on its next affordable housing neighborhood, a nine-home development on Vann Avenue in DeFuniak Springs.

  • The ceremony was hosted in partnership with the Walton Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by the Emerald Coast Association of Realtors. DeFuniak Springs Mayor Bob Campbell shared remarks at the event, and Pastor David Huffman offered a blessing for the neighborhood.

“Habitat for Humanity of Walton County is thrilled to mark this significant milestone in our mission to provide affordable housing to local families,” said Teresa Jones, CEO. “Given the lack of affordable housing solutions in Walton County, this neighborhood will be an incredible opportunity for several deserving families to have a safe place to call home.”

Construction on the nine new homes is set to begin this spring with the help of the homeowners, Habitat for Humanity staff and volunteers.

Founded in 1996, Habitat for Humanity of Walton County has built 75 homes to date.

  • “We want to take the time to celebrate the support we’ve received throughout this journey,” Jones added. “It is through the tireless commitment of so many members of our community that we are able to provide a foundation for a brighter future for these families.”

Tony Hollin of Edfinancial, which has supported Habitat projects, also shared remarks on the organization’s involvement.

“Edfinancial is truly grateful for the opportunity to give back to our community through projects like building a home with Habitat for Humanity,” Hollin said. “It’s an honor to be part of something that makes a lasting difference in people’s lives, and we’re proud to stand alongside others who share that same spirit of service.”
