Hurlburt Field Memorial Air Park to close for construction project

The Memorial Air Park at Hurlburt Field will close to the public beginning June 23 for an enhancement project.
Hurlburt Field

The Hurlburt Field Memorial Air Park will close to the public beginning June 23 for an enhancement project, according to a media advisory released Wednesday by the 1st Special Operations Wing.

  • The northern portion of the park is scheduled to reopen on July 1. However, the southern portion of the Air Park will remain closed for construction after that date.

The closure will facilitate the relocation of static display aircraft currently near the base chapel to new locations within the Air Park. This is part of an ongoing initiative to consolidate all aircraft and improve the overall visitor experience, according to the advisory.

The southern portion of the Air Park will remain closed to visitors until further notice. Officials are asking visitors to respect all posted signage and barriers and to avoid entering designated construction zones for their safety.

  • The 1st Special Operations Wing thanked the public for their patience and understanding during the construction period.

“To get a clearer picture, what is the historical record of impact on the nesting sites? Is there evidence of birds being impacted by previous fireworks shows?”
