Hurlburt Field to conduct explosive demolition training this week

Military officials warn residents to expect loud noises and vibrations from planned detonations occurring throughout the day between April 29 and May 2.

Residents near Hurlburt Field may hear loud noises or feel vibrations as the base conducts explosive demolition training from Tuesday through Friday this week.

  • The training will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 29 through May 1, and will conclude at 1 p.m. on May 2, according to base officials.

Officials said the demolition charge detonations are planned to occur periodically throughout each day of the scheduled training.

Base officials advise that weather conditions could affect how residents experience the training exercises. If humidity is high or if there is cloud coverage, the effects of the detonations can seem louder and closer than they would on clear days.

The military installation did not specify the exact location on base where the training will occur or provide details about the purpose of the explosive demolition exercises.
