Okaloosa County seeking applicant for Affordable Housing Advisory Committee

The county and Fort Walton Beach are looking to appoint one citizen to the advisory committee, with applications due by March 26.

Okaloosa County is accepting applications from citizens interested in serving on the Okaloosa County/Fort Walton Beach Affordable Housing Advisory Committee.

  • The Board of County Commissioners, with the mutual approval of the Fort Walton Beach City Council, will appoint one citizen to the committee. The appointee will serve a three-year term beginning immediately upon appointment.

The committee, established under section 420.9076 of Florida Statutes, serves in an advisory capacity to the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners and the Fort Walton Beach City Council on issues related to affordable housing in the county.

Its role includes developing recommendations to address impediments, create incentives or support the expansion of affordable housing opportunities within the local area. The committee meets no less than quarterly.

Applicants must meet one of the following categories as outlined in state statute and county policy: a citizen who is knowledgeable in the local planning process, a citizen who represents essential services personnel as defined in the local housing assistance plan, or a citizen who represents employers within the jurisdiction.

Citizens interested in being considered should visit myokaloosa.com/citizen-councils/home to review the policy, complete an application packet and begin the background check process.

Applications must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. Thursday, March 26, via email to citizencouncils@myokaloosa.com or by mail to BCC Citizen Councils, 1250 N. Eglin Parkway, Suite 100, Shalimar, FL 32579.
