Saltwater Restaurants announced Wednesday that its ‘Bites for Backpacks’ initiative has raised $2,985 to date for the Food for Thought Outreach mission, which fights food insecurity in Okaloosa and Walton counties.

  • The campaign, which launched earlier this summer, involves participating restaurants including The Crab Trap in Destin and at The Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island, Surf Hut, Rockin’ Tacos, and Floyd’s Shrimp & Steak House.

The restaurants contribute through specialty menu items and promotions, with $1 from every Lobster Bites appetizer sold going directly to Food for Thought to help fill backpacks with nutritious food for local students.

“This is a cause that’s close to our hearts,” said Nick Sarra, CEO of Saltwater Restaurants. “Our community is strongest when our children are nourished and ready to learn. We are proud to support Food for Thought in its essential mission.”

  • The fundraising push continues through mid-August, helping Food for Thought Outreach prepare for the upcoming school year.

Food for Thought Outreach provides weekly backpacks filled with healthy food to students who rely on free or reduced-price school meals. To contribute or learn more, visit https://fftfl.org/.
