State Rep. Patt Maney has been awarded the Silver Good Citizenship Medal on behalf of the Florida State Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Florida State Society and the Emerald Coast Society, Sons of the American Revolution, announced Wednesday.

According to the organizations, the medal is presented to people with longstanding prominence in local and state community service who make a difference locally through volunteerism, patriotism, military service and support, historical education and preservation, and faith-based initiatives. Recipients are also recognized for donating their time, financial resources and talents to lead organizations that improve quality of life for the public.

Maney is a retired Judge and a retired Brigadier General in the U.S. Army. He suffered life-threatening injuries when the enemy blew up his motorcade in Afghanistan. After a year of treatment, he returned to the bench, hearing criminal cases in Okaloosa County.

Maney has served with numerous charities, nonprofits and veteran support agencies, according to the release. He served as Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army in Washington, D.C., holds a lifetime appointment as a Kentucky Colonel from the Governor of Kentucky and is a lifetime member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

The organizations said none of his accomplishments top his creation of special courts in Florida that handle cases involving military veterans who suffer from PTSD or addiction due to service-related trauma.

In the Florida House, Maney has championed and passed bills to upgrade and improve services and treatment under the Baker Act and Myers/Marchman Act statutes, according to the release.

The Sons of the American Revolution said Maney’s impact on many lives and on families’ well-being has made him a role model for young people to follow.
