One of the world’s most prestigious big-game fishing tournaments is returning to local waters this summer, with millions in prize money at stake.

  • The 23rd Annual Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic will be held at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort from June 18-22, offering more than $2 million in cash and prizes to competitors.

The tournament attracts elite fishing teams from across the Gulf Coast region who compete to land the biggest blue marlin, which must measure at least 110 inches from lower jaw to tail fork to qualify for weigh-in.

“The Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic has become a summertime tradition, and it’s all thanks to our generous sponsors and the passion of our teams,” said Tournament Director Jason Draughn.

Competition begins at noon that Thursday from the Destin Pass, with official weigh-ins scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings at Baytowne Marina. These evening events typically draw thousands of spectators who gather to watch as massive catches are displayed, accompanied by live music and vendor exhibitions.

Friday night’s activities will include fireworks over the marina.

  • Beyond the blue marlin division, the tournament features catch-and-release categories for blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish and spearfish. Weighed competitions for tuna, wahoo and dolphin (mahi-mahi) will be scored at one point per pound.

The ECBC serves as a qualifying event for the Florida Panhandle Billfish Series, InTheBite’s Captain of the Year Program and the Gulf Coast Triple Crown Championship.

“We’re proud to host such a prestigious tournament that blends world-class sportfishing with the spirit of coastal camaraderie,” said April Sarver, Director of Marketing and Communications at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. “Whether you’re here to fish or simply soak up the excitement, this is a weekend you won’t want to miss.”

Teams registering by May 31, 2025, will be entered into a drawing to win $1,000 and complimentary dockage at Baytowne Marina during tournament week. Registration information is available by contacting Julia Brakhage at julia@tournamentcontrol.com, calling 910-264-3947, or visiting here.

The tournament week also includes the ECBC Golf Scramble on Wednesday, June 18. This event is open to tournament anglers and sponsors with pre-registration required.

In previous tournaments, winners have reeled in marlin weighing more than 650 pounds.

“What a great history for the town of Shalimar. I lived, grew up and went to school there. Now I'm back after 20 years and still love my town.”

“I like the pedestrian bridge idea but I wonder if it would have to be too tall to accomodate harbor boat traffic. Very interesting concept!”

“With a rock seawall along the water it’s not a beach, just a patch of sand. Take the docks out, add some parking and call it a day”
